The 100th Anniversary Year Arrives

Rebild National Park Society’s Centennial Anniversary Celebration & Annual Membership Meeting will be hosted by the Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter on April 25 - 29, 2012 in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Tours, receptions, luncheons, dinners and meetings are planned. The celebration culminates with Rebild’s Centennial Banquet & Danish Royal Guards’ Queen’s Gala Ball, which encompasses the support of the entire Danish-American community.

About the Hotel

The Hyatt Regency Woodfield, 1800 East Golf Road, Schaumburg, IL 60173 will be the official site for the Centennial Anniversary Celebration & Annual Membership Meeting. A welcome reception starts the celebration on Wednesday evening, April 25, 2012.

About the Chicago City Bus Tour

Thursday, April 26, 2012 will offer guests the opportunity to see Chicago's magnificent downtown. See the skyscrapers, the bustling streets and the breathtaking lakefront. The Chicago City Bus Tour will include lunch at the famous Signature Room at the 95th® located atop the John Hancock Center. The Signature Room offers diners exquisite food, superb service, and a dazzling skyline view. The elegant wood designs and art deco interior create an inviting and intimate atmosphere, while the floor-to-ceiling windows exhibit the stunning Chicago skyline and 360° degree views of the entire city.

About The Danish Home

In the afternoon, there will be a visit to The Danish Home of Chicago for coffee & kringle. The Danish Home, founded in 1891 in the Danish tradition of caring for its elderly, is one of the proud landmarks for the Chicago Danish-American community. Come enjoy an afternoon visit with The Danish Home's new executive director Scott Swanson and The Danish Home's residents and staff.

About Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament

The evening will present a light and fun-filled evening at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament near the hotel in Schaumburg, IL. Medieval Times is an exciting, family-friendly dinner attraction inspired by an 11th century feast and tournament. Guests are served a four-course banquet and cheer for one of six Knights competing in the joust and other tests of skill. Expect almost two hours of jousting, swordsmanship, thrilling hand-to-hand combat, displays of extraordinary horsemanship and falconry as part of an exciting yet touching story set in Medieval Spain. Medieval Times' noble guests feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, spare rib, herb-basted potatoes, pastry of the Castle and more. Guests eat with their hands, but utensils can be requested. Remember eating utensils were not used in the 11th century!

About the Western Suburban Tour

Friday, April 27, 2012 will offer the opportunity for an All Day & Evening Western Suburban Tour. This will be your chance to see Cantigny Gardens, McCormick Mansion and the First Division Army Museum, enjoy a box lunch, go on a Viking Ship tour and end the evening with a festive tent dinner & tour of Midwest Groundcovers in St. Charles, IL. Please note that the bus will not return to hotel until after the tent dinner. For those not participating in the All Day Tour, there will be a separate bus taking people from the hotel to the Tent Dinner only.

Located in Wheaton, IL, Cantigny Gardens is a sprawling, 500-acre park where families wander through nature, get lost in history and enjoy special programs and events. In addition to vast formal gardens and picnic and camping grounds, Cantigny offers two history-rich museums: the Robert R. McCormick Museum and the Cantigny First Division Museum, fascinating for families and researchers alike.

During the next stop on the tour, you will venture to see The Viking, located at Good Templar Park in Geneva, IL, The Viking is a replica of the Gokstad ship. In 1893, under Captain Magnus Andersen, she sailed across the Atlantic (from Bergen, Norway to New York) and on to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago (via the Erie Canal and Great Lakes). Declared one of the 10 most endangered landmarks in Illinois, The Viking is an important, irreplaceable piece of this nation's and region's history. Local Scandinavians and Americans are working to preserve The Viking.

Finally, the evening ends with a festival tent dinner & tour on the property of Peter and Irma Orum's Midwest Groundcovers in St. Charles, IL. Come and enjoy this beautiful setting. Midwest Groundcovers grows and propagates over twenty million of the finest plants in the Midwest for landscape contractors, garden centers and the landscape trade every year.

About the Centennial Gala

The Chicago Midwest Rebild Chapter, The Danish Royal Guards' Society and the entire Danish-American community in the Chicagoland area are going all-out to make a memorable Centennial Gala for the evening of Saturday, April 28, 2012. "Rebild’s Centennial Banquet & Danish Royal Guards’ Queen’s Gala Ball" is an undertaking made possible by countless members, volunteers and sponsors. The evening will include a four-course gala dinner including wine & non-stop entertainment.
